Fellas, is it Gay to Like a Woman?
My take on modern dating, or–after millenia of oppression, straight people are still struggling!
for this article I read The Rules: Time-tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider and I Had a Nice Time And Other Lies...: How to Find Love & Sh*t Like That by The Betches. This piece is somewhat heteronormative, but most of the advice is applicable to everyone.
Dear reader,
Are we dating?
If we’re related, you can disregard the metaphor.
If you’re less related to me than a first cousin, Hey ;)
And if you’re my first cousin, like the one I held hands with when I was four, Hey ;) we can still get married in North Carolina ;)
But dating is an apt metaphor for writing. So, since this post is our first date, I’ll adhere to a few rules.
Dont overshare
Leave them wanting more
follow the rule of threes
Im doing great so far!
I’ve been in a few relationships, and more than a few situationships—some of which blew up like a Molotov Cocktail, and others which just fizzled out like an old can of La Croix. I fuck up a lot. This is just a general observation. But my track record with romance is, for some reason, much worse than my friendships. I’m a good friend, so why do I suck at love? I turned to The Rules and I Had a Nice Time and Other Lies to answer my modern dating woes, and hopefully some of yours too.
